As shown some time ago for the Mac, today’s tip shows you how to organize your plug-ins on windows, in order to find and load them quickly into Blue Cat’s PatchWork or MB-7 Mixer.
Here is the step by step guide to install VST Plugins in Fl Studio: 1. Download the VST Plugins to your computer. Unzip the Plugin file. Copy the.dll file to Program Files VST3 Folder. Open FL Studio and click on Channels up top and then click the Refresh button to scan your VST plugin folder. Look for the new VST plugin you added.
As you will see, It’s no rocket science, and this will greatly improve your experience and reduce the time to load your plug-ins.
Spending Too Much Time Looking For Plug-Ins?
Some people have been asking for the capability to load the plug-ins directly from the menu instead of having to open an Explorer Window. While this may be added in the future to our software, be aware that it may never beat what you can already do today with the Windows Explorer or Finder, as you will see below…
How To
On Windows, whatever you do, your VST plug-ins folder will probably quickly look like a huge mess, unfortunately…
There is however a very simple way to overcome this issue and organize your plug-ins properly: it will just take you a few minutes!
To quickly access your plug-ins, without modifying the original install locations (for optimal compatibility), just do the following:
1. Create a new folder somewhere convenient on your system. For example in the ” My Documents” directory.
2. Label the new folder as “Plug-ins”.
3. Drag it into your Sidebar Favorites section to make it available as a shortcut there.
4. Go to your VST plug-ins folder.
5. Right click on each plugin you want and choose “Create shortcut” (multi-selection works too).
6. Move these shortcuts to your new folder, and create sub-folders to organize them.
Here you go! You can now access plug-ins quickly using the shortcuts, inside the appropriate folders:
VST Plug-Ins organized into subfolders, directly accessible from the Favorites Sidebar
Additional Tip: You can also choose to add several folders to the favorite bar instead of a single one, to access directly the mostly used plug-ins that you use most of the time.
One More Tip: It is possible to add a shortcut to the same plug-in in different folders, as it may be valid for several categories.
Not Fancy Enough? Add Some Icons!
Once you have properly organized the plug-ins thanks to shortcuts and linked to them from the favorites bar, you may want to add some colors to it and change the icons. You can set a different icon for each folder, and even for each plug-in:
Display mac on microsoft hub. Plug-Ins Folders with Custom Icons
Ni vst plugins. With custom icons, it is even easier to find the plug-ins: a glance will suffice to pickup the right one!
Free Search Included!
And one more thing… Did you know that you can then use the standard windows search feature to find the plug-ins? Just type in a name and you’ll get it instantly!
VST Plug-In Search Included !
Conclusion
Simply using the Windows Explorer properly and taking the time to organize things will greatly improve the plug-in loading experience. There are even features that are not available in most host applications (how many do provide custom icons and search?).
Do you still need an included plug-in menu? Please discuss below!
| Hi all, I seem to have a problem with my Effects folder not remembering its settings. What I mean is, I will organize my effects into a custom folder structure, such as 'Reverbs,' 'Filters,' 'Choruses' etc. But when I close and reopen Studio One, it forgets all of my organization. My instruments panel seems to remember everything just fine. I've tried removing the 'studioeffects.settings' and 'pluginpresentation.settings' files, along with the 'Studio One.settings' files, but none of this seems to do the trick. I get the impression that whatever file that stores that info is corrupted or something and just needs to be reset, but have no idea where it is. Thanks in advance for any help on this matter! | You need to set the location for where the preset folder is. If you go to the main menu of Studio One, click 'Studio One' scroll down to 'Options', click on 'Location', then 'User Data' tab you'll see the field for where your Songs, Presets are stored when you save them. If you are using Studio One's native effects and instruments, you can access them from the browser below the instrument / effect. If you right click on the preset, you will see an option to open in explorer which will open the direct location for where the preset or presets are located. If you have saved presets of instruments and effects elsewhere, you can copy them over. If you are using any other VST instruments or effects, you can optionally create a separate Data folder for them and have the plugin's access the required data from that location, if the plugin allows, whilst keeping the actual VST instrument in the VST folder you've created. | scottmoncrieff wroteYou need to set the location for where the preset folder is. Hey thanks a lot for the reply, but I don't think I explained my issue clearly. I have my user data folder set, but the problem isn't with storing presets (I don't think), it's with Studio One remembering the folders I create to organize my plugins. Here's an example of what I'm experiencing: 1. Open up Studio One and go to the Effects panel 2. I start organizing my plugins into folders that make more sense to me. You'll see I created 'Bit Crushers,' 'Amps,' 'Flangers' and moved appropriate plugins into those folders. 3. After I close and reopen Studio One, it reverts back to its original state. The Instruments panel doesn't behave this way for me, it allows me to organize at will and it remembers after I close and reopen Studio One. Hope this helps explain better. It's obviously a frustrating thing since I'm a bit of an organization freak, ha. Thanks again! | Ok, I think I know what you mean now, the new folders you have created with inserted plugin's are not visible once you've restarted. I've tested this myself and I'm not having this issue in Studio One not remembering the how plugin's are configured in Effects. Are you sure you haven't created a folder within an existing folder and not moved that folder out to it's parent position so it's visible ? It's an easy thing to forget to move the folder out to be the parent if you had created a subfolder initially. Additionally, if you are creating folders and want them to be the parent from the outset, you should create them from the Recent section at the top where it shows the plugin's you recently used, so they retain their parent position in the plugin folder list. Hey thanks again, yeah it's really weird, like I say something that stores this info seems to be corrupted somewhere. I'm positive I'm creating folders in the root, and that I'm not putting them in an existing folder. I've decided to just deal with it for now (even though it drives me kind of nuts). I'll try and see if I can figure it out after I get some things finished. Cheers! Website Bandcamp Soundcloud AMD Ryzen 3900X, 64 GB RAM, Windows 10 Pro, Studio One Professional, Presonus Quantum |
| I've seen a few other forum posts from people at various times reporting similar issues with the browser, but never experienced the issue myself. I'd suggest contacting Support. Maybe there's something they can offer. | Also make sure you close the file you are working on before exiting Studio One. It appears that Studio One saves the folder structure when you close the file, so exiting after making the changes will result in the alterations being lost. (I discovered this after spending 20 minutes organizing my plugin folders, only to have Studio One crash to desktop when attempting to close the file). 2017 iMac 27' i7 4.2ghz 16Gb Memory Mac OS Mojave Focusrite Scarlett 4i4 3rd Gen Studio One 4.5 Pro / Waveform 10 |

Yes, and from what I remember I believe you can also save your new folder structure by clicking the wrench and clicking it again. This way you won't have to close the song and risk crashing to desktop. Not 100% sure, though; not by the computer right now. |
